Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a nerve compression in the hand. The carpal tunnel, through which various muscles and tendons run, is too narrow, causing the median nerve to become compressed at the level of the wrist. Vividus Chiropractic offers treatments using the Phystrac traction device, which is a highly effective tool in the treatment of CTS.

Do I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)?

Common signs are:

✔ pain (sometimes very severe)
✔ numbness
✔ stiffness
✔ a tingling and burning sensation
✔ loss of strength in the hands and fingers
✔ insomnia caused by the resulting discomfort

If you recognise these symptoms, have your GP or a specialist determine whether you are indeed suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. In the past, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome could only be treated by an outpatient procedure. Surgically, more space is created in the overly narrow tunnel, thereby relieving the compression. Unfortunately, even after surgical intervention, many symptoms persist or return over time.

No surgery

In addition to surgery, treatment with the Phystrac traction device is also possible. It is a highly effective tool in the treatment of patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Through controlled traction applied to the forearm and wrist, the structures, muscles, and ligaments involved in maintaining the symptoms are relaxed.

Advantages of this treatment include:

✔ no waiting list
✔ no surgery
✔ no incision / no wound
✔ no pain
✔ no risk

How does the Phystrac traction device work?

The Phystrac is a mechanically operated traction device. Via a strap around the wrist, the device applies traction to the forearm. The forearm and elbow are held in the correct position using fixation straps. Traction to the forearm is applied through the wrist strap, which is connected to a weight mechanism. This provides controlled traction of the forearm and wrist, allowing the structures, muscles, and ligaments to relax. This process is comparable to what occurs during manual traction. The advantage over manual traction is the precise and repeatable application. As a result of this treatment, the carpal ligament exerts less pressure on the structures within the carpal tunnel, thereby reducing compression of the median nerve, which is the nerve affected in CTS.

Clinical experience has shown that in mild cases, ten to twelve treatments are sufficient to relieve the symptoms. In more severe cases, additional treatments are required. It is, however, recommended that your doctor first refers you for a neurological examination (EMG). Recent scientific research, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Neurology at VieCuri Medical Centre Venlo/Venray, has demonstrated that this method is effective as a treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Treatment pathway

Treatment pathway, including according to protocol:

✔ 12 treatments over 6 weeks (twice per week)
✔ Unilateral treatment: €30 per treatment
✔ Bilateral treatment: €45 per treatment

Most health insurers reimburse these treatments in full or in part, provided you have a supplementary insurance package. The costs can be paid to us after each treatment. You will receive an invoice that you can submit to your health insurer for reimbursement. For a Phystrac treatment, you can also attend our practice without a referral from your GP or specialist.
